Unideportes: Sport for Youth Empowerment

Together with UEFA Foundation for Children, we are excited to be continuing our work using sport for youth empowerment! This partnership began in 2024, and will continue throughout 2025 and 2026.

We believe that sport has both an educational and a social role, and can help youth learn and build values, skills and confidence that they can apply on and off the sports field. Through our Unideportes sports programme, we provide weekly sports activities for youth from rural communities in order to foster positive values, soft skills such as leadership and teamwork, and promote gender equity. Our young leaders also organize monthly evens in rural communities, bringing access to sport to many children and young people in areas where they would not otherwise have access.

Alongside sports, youth participants also participate in monthly themed workshops on topics such as leadership, emotional intelligence, self esteem, assertive communication and youth rights in order to promote holistic personal development and youth empowerment.

In 2025, we will be expanding this work with a partnership with the municipal Sports Academy, with whom we will start six local football teams for children and young people across age divisions, and together we will organize the first rural youth football league in the department.
