What is the Communications Team?

The Communications Team is based in Amsterdam. We oversee all of educate.’s external communications, including our social media and newsletters but also our blog and other media relationships. We aim to spread the philosophy and mission of educate. and to widen our community through engaging content and stories.

The role of a Social media and Newsletter Coordinator

In the role of a Social Media and Newsletter Coordinator you will take the lead on managing educate.’s social media as well as writing and collating our monthly newsletter, for which we use Mailchimp.

We use social media to share the stories from our work in Honduras, such as about the progress of our scholarship students, or the way a school library is being used since its inauguration. To share these stories accurately and authentically, you will be in touch with our Projects team to receive this information. Your job will be to write the posts in a way that is ethical and engaging. You will also put together a monthly newsletter highlighting some of our main updates from the month.

In our communications team, opportunities always exist to get involve in different areas. Are you interested in developing your article writing skills? An in-depth feature own one of our students could be a possibility! Or are you keen to practice your photography or video editing skills? You can cover one of our fundraising events!

The main tasks will include:

  • Produce engaging, consistent and original content for all social media platforms that spreads the philosophy and mission of educate. (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)
  • Implement a social media strategy focusing particularly on Europe and Honduras 
  • Build social media campaigns for events and fundraising campaigns 
  • Collaborating with other educate. teams on communications projects
  • Analyse and provide insight on social media growth 
  • Create monthly newsletters on Mailchimp

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with initiative, vision and drive to take our communications to the next level!

  • A background in international development, politics or similar, and an understanding of the themes surrounding educate.‘s work
  • A strong understanding of and affinity with educate.’s mission and philosophy of development
  • Fluent in English (Spanish is an added bonus!)
  • Keen interest in social media strategy and day to day management
  • Organisational skills
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and passionate!

For all new members of the Amsterdam team, training as well as ongoing mentorship is provided. We are a close-knit team and support is always there!

The commitment:

Our team, members commit 5-8 hours per week on average. Most hours are flexible, plus weekly meetings on Thursday evenings. 

Minimum 6-month commitment.
